The Jesus Series: Life and Miracles: Read and Share DVD Bible

The Jesus Series: Life and Miracles: Read and Share DVD Bible. Gwen Ellis. Tommy Nelson. May 2010.

The Jesus Series: Life and Miracles: Read and Share DVD Bible is a 30 minute animated video about Jesus' ministry along Lake Galilee and the villages near Nazareth. The stories that are presented in this dvd include Jesus calling his disciples, feeding 5,000 people, walking on water, healing the sick, teaching about the Kingdom of God, and it ends with Jesus introducing the Lord's Supper.

I watched this dvd with my 3 year old niece today. It kept her attention for the most part and she seemed to like it a lot, she even asked to watch it again right after. I really like having these resources available to teach her about Jesus in ways that are accurate, entertaining, and easy for her to understand. I'm sure this dvd will be watched plenty of times here. The birth and death of Jesus are not covered in this dvd, but there are two other videos in this series that do. Those dvd's are the Christmas and Easter stories.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

God's Promises for Boys

God's Promises for Boys. Jack Countryman and Amy Parker. Tommy Nelson. May 2010. Hardcover. 128 pages.

"Stylin', chillin', and rollin' your way
Are fine when you're breaking no rules.
But helpin', respectin', and followin' God's ways,
Are the only way to  be coooool."

Do not be shaped by this world. Instead be
changed within by a new way of thinking. Then you
will be able to decide what God wants for you.
And you will be able to know what is good and
pleasing to God and what is perfect.
Romans 12:2

God's Promises for Boys is a really cute book that is geared towards 6-10 year olds. This book is filled with over 30 promises from the bible. Each of the promises are separated into seven sections and each section is broken down into topics such as: God's Promises When... You want to be cool, You are worried, You are angry, etc. The pages start out with a short poem followed by three or four verses. The bible verses are taken from the International Children's Bible so they're easy to read and understand. This is a great resource to have when your little boy is facing a problem or just has questions. The illustrations are colorful and they go along with each topic you are reading about. This book would make a great gift and a wonderful addition to any little boys bookshelf. I highly recommend it.

The Right to Lead

The Right to Lead: Learning Leadership Through Character and Courage. John C. Maxwell. Thomas Nelson. May 2010. Hardcover. 96 pages.

I received this complimentary copy of The Right to Lead from Thomas Nelson Publishers. I've never read any books by John Maxwell so I really didn't know what to expect from this book. The author gives 7 guidelines to help people grow and prepare themselves to become better leaders. This book is divided into 7 sections that are about 15 pages long. Each section has to do with different aspects of leadership which are Action, Vision, Sacrifice, Risk, Determination, Service and Integrity. The stories about the people that earned their right to lead others are both inspiring and encouraging. I really enjoyed the quotes that are not only from Maxwell but also from other influential leaders. This gift book is a pretty good size and it would be great for anyone, not just people that are in leadership positions. I definitely recommend The Right to Lead.

Plan B

Plan B. Pete Wilson. Thomas Nelson. May 2010. Paperback. 224 pages.

What Do You Do When God Doesn't Show Up The Way You Thought He Would?

In his first book, Pete Wilson takes us through various Plan B situations by incorporating Biblical stories and real life experiences from his life and the lives of others around him, which makes this book very relatable. I think the main point that the author is trying to get through to the readers is that God is always in control, even when it doesn't seem like it. Yes, we all have a Plan A for our lives, but when life goes a completely different direction, the reality of a Plan B hits us hard. When we find ourselves facing a tough Plan B, we must simply trust God. We just need to have faith that God will always pull us through, no matter what circumstances we are facing.

"When you respond in circumstances as if you were confident that God is there, you will see God in the circumstances." -Pete Wilson

I was so excited to read this book. Pete uses a modern tone that makes reading the book easy to understand and enjoyable. This book is challenging and encouraging. It also had me laughing and crying within the first 3 chapters. Plan B is one of those books that you can read over and over again and find something you might have missed the previous times you read it. It is definitely a must read, even if you're not facing a Plan B situation... yet.

Bible Jumble for Kids

Bible Jumble for Kids. Christopher Hudson. Tyndale Kids.  May 2010. Paperback. 224 pages.

Bible Jumble for kids is a fun and entertaining puzzle book filled with a variety of 200 different jumble puzzles. The puzzles are separated into six different categories which are: Traditional Jumbles, Mystery Jumbles, Jumble Detective, Jumble Criss-Cross, Find the Jumble and Bible Passage Jumbles. This is a great way for kids to learn even more about the characters and stories in the bible, while doing it in a really fun way. If the kids are having a hard time with one of the puzzles, there is a very helpful Bible verse reference at the top of the page. All the answers are in the back of the book as usual.

Even though this puzzle book is for kids, I had a lot of fun solving the different jumble puzzles. I definitely recommend Bible Jumble for Kids.
