Buried Alive

Buried Alive. Roy Hallums. Thomas Nelson. January 2010. Hardcover. 256 pages.

I received a complimentary copy of this book through Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze blogger program. Buried alive is a true story written by Roy Hallums. This is his account of what he endured during his kidnapping, captivity, and dramatic rescue. Roy, a 56 year old retired Navy commander, was working as a food supply contractor in Baghdad's Mansour district. In November of 2004 he was abducted by an Iraqi gang that was seeking ransom. During his 10 month captivity, he was tortured, humiliated, hog-tied, blindfolded, beaten, barely fed, and practically buried alive. Roy has an incredible way of telling his story with such clarity and even a bit of humor. This book also gives detail of what his family went through during those months of not knowing whether or not he was ok.

This is such an amazing story! It was a quick read for me. I was hooked on page one and I couldn't put it down. I was a bit worried that it would be a little too graphic in detail, but it has just enough to understand exactly what he was enduring without it being too much to handle. I felt like I was right there with him during the entire book. This really is an edge of your seat story.

My Rating: 4/5 stars

Please Pray For Little Layla

Share photos on twitter with Twitpic

This is Layla Grace, she's 2 years old and has stage 4 neuroblastoma. Her parents have been updating everyone on her condition through Twitter, Facebook, and thier Blog. This little girl needs our prayers. Even though I don't personally know this family, I just can't get her beautiful little face out of my mind. It just breaks my heart to see her pictures and know that she's been going through pain and she's losing her fight with cancer. No child should have to go through this. Please keep her in your prayers.

Her parents also ask:
Please pray for her comfort; both physically and spiritually. Please pray that she knows how much God loves her and she isn’t scared about what she is feeling and what is happening. Please pray for minimal pain and suffering.

Facing Your Giants

Facing Your Giants. Max Lucado. Thomas Nelson. October 2008. Trade Paper. 256 pages.

I received this copy of Facing Your Giants from Thomas Nelson's Booksneeze blogger program. As i've said before, Max's style of writing is easy to read and understand. Right away I knew I wasn't going to be able to put this book down. Facing Your Giants is an inspirational and encouraging book. Max Lucado uses the story of David to show readers how we can go about dealing with our struggles. David was "A man after God's own heart" and a great example of someone who failed repeatedly, but God still loved him.

"Focus on  Giants - You stumble. Focus on God - Your Giants Tumble."

Here's another Lucado book I highly recommend. Many of us are facing our own Goliaths but when we keep our eyes on God, our struggles don't seem so big. Don't tell God how big your giants are, Tell your giants how big your God is.
